LX5 NORDLICHTER

26.4.2012 I 19:00            Niederlande Ronald Rietveld, Rietveld Landscape, Amsterdam curator of the Dutch pavilion for the 12th Venice Architecture Biennial Rietveld Landscape was founded by landscape architect Ronald Rietveld after he won the Prix de Rome Architecture 2006. In 2003 he graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. From its start economist and philosopher Erik Rietveld (Harvard University) and Atelier de Lyon have been part of the studio’s core team. Moreover, according to the specific needs of each project Rietveld Landscape collaborates with external designers and specialists. Many of our projects deal with large current developments such as floods, increasing urbanization, extreme rainfall and drought, ecology and sustainability, infrastructure, and the changing meaning of public space. Our interventions add a new and understandable layer to the site’s specific history. The relevant scale of the project may vary from a square to a whole region. Our design and research can be characterized by its specific approach. Sharp analyses followed by clear concepts form the basis of our strategic and sometimes radical interventions. These focus and use the forces of important existing developments and processes to generate a new context and meaning for qualities present. This design method creates new opportunities for landscape, architecture, urban design, the public domain, ecology, recreation, and economic activity. Rietveld Landscape was curator of the Dutch pavilion for the 12th Venice Architecture Biennial. The office won both Dutch Design Awards in the category Architecture: best interior and best exterior 2011 as well as the Rotterdam Design Prize. www.rietveldlandscape.com 14.6. 2012 I 19:00              Schweden Monika Gora, Gora Art & Landscape, Malmö projects between landscape and art, nature and built environment Monika, born in 1959, has been working as a landscape architect and artist with her own office, GORA art&landscape, since 1989. She holds a master’s degree in landscaping from the Swedish University of Agriculture. Before starting her own office Monika Gora made prolonged travels of work and study in Australia, China, Indonesia, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the USA. She is a member of the Swedish National Council for Architecture, Form and Design. In her practice she has systematically chosen her own paths – both experimenting and challenging – combining this with an ability to find practicable solutions. Monika Gora often works with a seamless combinations of landscape architecture, public art and building. In addition to permanent works, temporary contributions to existing environments occupy a central position in Monika Gora’s oeuvre; often indexical projects of temporary transformation and interventions to environments that are threatened by monotonous routine or by being too familiar. www.gora.se 18.10.2012 I 19:00         Finnland Pia Kuusiniemi & Krista Muurinen, LOCI Landscape Architects Ltd, Helsinki urban development projects in Helsinki LOCI Landscape Architects Ltd
